Tuesday, March 26 was ‘PoPortunity Day’. Some of Concord’s high school classes participated in a demonstration and hands-on business education event. Thank you to Timeko Davis-Wade, owner/operator of Pop’s Kernel Gourmet Popcorn for sharing with our students her entrepreneurial idea that created her ever-expanding business.
Our students explored their own business start-up ideas and discussed what it takes to become young entrepreneurs. The event included discussion topics about starting a business with a simple idea that can be duplicated, to demonstrating how their popcorn is air-popped. Samples of oils and seasoning ingredients used to flavor the many different varieties of popcorn were on display.
Did you know that some of the best oils used to pop popcorn are avocado, canola, coconut, and olive oil? One of the most flavorful part of the event was the taste testing. Some of Concord’s favorite Pop’s Kernel Gourmet flavors were Tuxedo (Sweet Butter Caramel all dressed in white and milk chocolate), Sweet Butter Caramel, and White Cheddar Ranch being a ‘cheesy’ favorite. It was a huge and yummy success!
